Dicetris update

Hello! Introductions aren’t my strong suit so I haven’t bothered to write one.

This post is somewhat of a follow up to our last tigsource forum post

What we’ve been doing

Me and Camilla have been hard at work trying to secure funding for the project while also working on improving the game.

We went to Nordic Game in Malmö and had a booth at the floor there. We got lots of great feedback which we’ve taken to heart.

We were placed next to fellow Norwegian developer Filokus who were showing their game Talystro

The game’s taken a slight shift in focus. Initially with pitched the game as a mobile game for Apple Arcade. Well, now we’ve decided that this game should actually be a PC game on Steam. Maybe mobile can come later in some different form.

The game so far

We’re adding new features. If you’re not familiar with the game then this won’t be that interesting. The game used to be just an endless mode, with a daily mode, and a planned zen mode. We’ve since rethought these modes.

We’ve added an entirely new mode called challenge mode. This will serve as the new core of the game, whereas previously it was just endless play and nothing more, now there’s unique stages to overcome. After completing a stage the player will be rewarded with up to three stars. We’re taking some inspiration from the Trackmania series here. Stages are sorted into categories and each category requires a certain number of stars to be obtained before they can be played.

To complement this new mode we’ve split the daily mode into two separate sub-modes: daily run and daily challenge. I feel like these names are pretty self explanatory but to give a brief description: In daily run everyone who plays that day will get the same set of dice blocks in their queue. The goal is to score as much as possible within 50 clears. daily challenge is much of the same, except each day will present a new challenge which everyone will compete for a high score in for that day.

New UI

The most visually interesting thing we’ve made recently is the brand new main menu! With the shift from the tight and crampt mobile aspect ratio to widescreen we’ve had to redesign most UI elements to fit and make use of this new space.

Going forward we’ll be designing more challenges (we’re planning about 40 of them)

Playtesters

We’ll be looking for playtesters in the future so if you’re interested please let us know by contacting us at hello@leik.games

And that’s about all I could think of for now. Stay tuned for future updates.
